Having features that are wanted in a rental studio, high ceilings, open space, a 12×14 foot direct studio access garage door just to name a few. Its nice to be able to change up the studio to comply with a clients needs. Recently a series of videos were shot using the opens space and the kitchen as one set.

This set consisted of a talk show area and a kitchen in the background. This was used later for some demonstrations. The set was built, walls repainted. wall flats repositioned, a stage was built. Over all a great use of the space. The client was very happy we could accommodate them. And most importantly, the videos came out wonderfully.

We at A-19, the best Photo and Video rental studio in Minnesota, took down our old 16 x22 foot ceiling bounce. In favor of a new 12×20 diffusion. Or some times called a butterfly. Its a lot lighter, this will make it easier to move up and down. Also we added a 1000 watt scoop light in the ceiling directly over the light panel. this will help in the lighting of the white cove. we’ll be adding a couple of more lights later. The diffusion pannel was custom made by Canvas Grip in California.

Day light comes to A-19. I recently changed the fabric (and the whole mechanical system) in front of my garage door. This fabric is used for shooting using daylight. The semi translucent curtain is suspended on a roller in front of the garage door. Sun light gets defused and is just wonderful to shoot with. Its a 12×14 foot wall of light. But it was a a DIY system and not very convenent if you needed to use the garagedoor. I used stuff from around the studio to build it. I was searching the web and came found a company in California called canvas grip. They make lots of Flags,Scrims, and silks for the movie industry. I contacted them and Ivan was great to talk to. They make custom silks. so I talked to them about a new curtain. I had a 15 x13.6 ft Poly silk curtain made. I went to the local Ace Hardware, and bought the cabling and brackets that I needed. it went up well. but its been only around 30 degrees out so I have not opened the door to measure the amount a diffusion and the quality of the light. I think I’ll wait unill it gets warmer.

We have a 30x22x18 foot cove wall that is used by still shooters and specially video shooters. But we do offer other areas. The entry has Chicago brick and glass block walls.

The studio has the cove, but also a movable 8×12 wall. its currently painted a sage color with white wainscot. But that can be changed. Area Nineteen Also carries 3 8×12 wall flats that can be painted and put together to form a room. just add a little floor and Walla!

If you have a specific request please let know. I’ll see what we can do.

I have alway been interested in the the next thing. Wether it be a camera, lighting or computers. I’m always looking for ways to advance my skills or find a new tool that will make my images better. I noticed on Ebay these LED lights. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. They take little power, produce little to no heat, and are portable. But are expensive. Newer technology always is. I was reading a blog from Kirk Tuck a photographer from Austin texas. He found some less expensive lights on Amazon. Kirk Tuck wrote about the power and the portability of the LED light. So I order a light. I’ll the to get a couple of samples up for all to see.

Well summer is over and non to soon for me. There was not a lot of rentals this summer. You could blame the economy,or the good weather, You could blame my google ranking, or you could blame me. I have been remiss in blogging and keeping the A19 site new and fresh. I will try harder. On a positive note I have added some more lenses to the rental pool. And I recently started to work with final cut to learn editing.
Well more to come later.

Navigating the rough waters in business it not easy. How do you get others to visualiz it?
You build a crab boat wheel house! With with the inspiration coming from the high seas, QTP built a Wheel house . With a actual wheel in it. a trailer provided the pivot point and green screen will provide the sea. I lot safer than the real thing.
